It all started with a decision to go on vacation. Jordan was in the middle of moving out of her Austin apartment, when her friend Anna invited her out to the Frio River for a weekend of rest. Jordan’s mom strongly urged her to stay and finish packing (something she now is thankful Jordan ignored) to be ready for the movers.
When Anna and Jordan arrived, they quickly went to say hello to the group and there on the rivers edge was Dan. Jordan’s first thought was “what a cute boy and a nice beard”, but she didn’t recognize him. For Dan it was “Wow, she’s even more beautiful than I remember. I wonder if she remembers me?”He remembered the sassy girl from St. Lukes.
After “reintroducing” themselves to each other, conversation flowed effortlessly and eventually led to a beer pong challenge- Anna and Jordan versus Dan and his dad. Jordan insisted she was no good but Dan did not believe her one bit, especially after she hit three zingers in a row. To this day Dan insists Jordan was sandbagging them, but Jordan will tell you it was luck - and the boys won anyway.
That evening, during Pizza Night at the Perez-Guerra’s cabin, Dan got a first hand look at just how sassy Jordan can be. When she rendered a family friend speechless (something she learned later was hard to do), Dan asked, “Where do you live?” That’s when Jordan dropped the bomb - she was moving at the end of summer to Washington D.C.
Dan wasn’t deterred by Jordan’s plans, asking her out three weeks after that fateful river trip. He would’ve asked her out sooner, but she went on two work trips immediately after vacation. On their first date, to say they were both nervous was an understatement, but just like at the river, once the conversation got started, they fell into easy familiarity. It wasn’t until after they closed down the Chubacabra in Salado that Jordan’s nerves got the best of her. As they were saying goodbye, Dan turned to unlock his truck and when he turned back to Jordan, she was already in her car heading for home.
Their dates became frequent, as if making up for lost time or getting the most out of the two months before Jordan moved. To this day, neither Jordan nor Dan really know when they became an exclusive couple. Jordan’s mom described the relationship as “breathing” -effortless and easy. Dan’s dad was asking when Dan was going to move to D.C.
Their first year was spent working through the highs and lows of long distance. Facetimes, phone calls, and visits to D.C. became the norm. Shortly after celebrating a year together, Dan finally made the move up to D.C. with Jordan. Over the next few months they turned their house into a home, and eventually Clyde, the little 10-pound prince, came around to the new man of the house.
After the new year, and being together a year and a half, Dan couldn’t wait any longer. After finally pinning an ever busy Jordan down to a dinner date, he put his plan into action. They barely made it to their parking spot when Dan popped the question, revealing Jordan’s mother’s ring. Jordan barely let him finish before she said yes!
2025 has seen many ups and downs for both Jordan and Dan. Through every peak and valley, they keep each other at their center, knowing there’s nothing they can’t get through together. They cannot wait to celebrate that love with family and friends on November 14, 2026!
